Creating a buttery, soft, fluid paste, Cold Wax is the medium that occurs when you combine beeswax mixed with a small amount of solvent and resin into your oil painting.
According to the Cold Wax Academy, the medium; "extends and adds body to oil paint, aids in drying time, increases transparency and workability, does not require special set-up or ventilation, and allows artists to build up textural effects and layers.
In this basic skills workshop, artists are introduced to the supplies, techniques, and surfaces used to create paintings with Cold Wax medium and oil paint. Students will also explore various ways to build layers and create textures and how to apply these techniques to paintings. This class is especially relevant for those who prefer oil painting and want to learn a new technique, though all are welcome!
Materials are provided as part of the class fee.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Kelly Hodges is a native of Winston-Salem. Having worked with small printing companies and at the Winston-Salem Journal for 15 years, she has over 20 years of experience in the graphic arts, and printing field. Despite it all, her first love is painting. For as long as she can remember, she have dabbled in different mediums, including drawing, painting, and photography.
Kelly attended Salem College and majored in Studio Art with a focus on Oil Painting. While still at Salem College, she began experimenting with Cold Wax medium. For the past several years, it has been her main focus.
"As an artist, I am inspired by color, texture, and emotion. I have found that oil paint and cold wax medium encourages experimental approaches to my paintings. Adding the medium to oil paint allows for added texture including through the use of stencils or found objects, translucency, and shorter drying times."
