Have you ever noticed that human history is mainly explained through art? Acting as a mirror that reflects society, art helps us define our own history and ancestry. But more than a key to the past, art also connects us in the now! Uplifting communities, sharing joy, and expressing our emotions and aesthetics, art is a necessary part of society.

HOW DOES AAWS SUPPORT THE ARTS?

With such important roles in individual lives, communities, and humanity itself. Art must be kept alive. Often, the arts are the first thing under attack. When funding starts disappearing or shifting, art is stripped. Laregly considered unessential and non-important to everyday life, here at AAWS, we know that's far from the truth.

The Associated Artists of Winston-Salem supports the arts and artists by:

  • Providing quarterly grants for artist advancement. The Bill Edward Grant awards our members with up to $500 for workshops that advance their practice, business, and marketing expertise.
  • Establishes places in the Community for Artists to Exhibit and Sell their Art. This benefits both artists and the community, as it beautify's spaces around Winston-Salem and also provides local artists exposure in the community.
  • Hosts workshops and classes for all. Our workshops and classes are open to the public, allowing the community to participate in art. Creativity in communities is proven to build relationships, uplift group self-esteem, process group emotions, and of course, add color into life. We could all use a bit of that!
