Have you ever wondered how artists develop their drawing and painting skills?  Maybe you want to establish a daily art practice? If you answered yes to any of these questions, there is only one answer for you - an art sketchbook! AAWS created this workshop series to explore the advantages of forming a routine sketchbook practice.

This Personal Journaling Class is your fourth class of four. Here, you'll use all sorts of materials to make creative, mixed media creations and collages.

This workshop will offer the basics for getting started with personal journaling using simple materials. We will learn to play, make a mess, and have fun. This class will provide a space to experiment with art materials, drawings, collages and how to use art to reflect and express emotions. It'll be a safe place to try something new, document your life with a collection of personal items, and create a memorable keepsake with demonstrations and hands-on insight from an experienced art teacher!

** Students must bring a sketchbook/journal with heavier paper appropriate for mixed media artwork and a personal photo. Supplies encouraged are glue, scissors, packaging tape, container for water, stencils, brushes, paint, and magazines or any embellishments or personal items you might want to use.

Some mixed media supplies will also be available to the class.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Jennifer Willard received her B.F.A. in Art Education from UNC Greensboro in 2007. Since beginning her teaching career at WSFCS in 2007, she has mentored students to pursue the arts as part of their path. In her classroom, she has hosted numerous visiting artists and helped students develop state and national award-winning works and portfolios. Jennifer teaches drawing, painting, and sculpture classes as well as hosting painting parties for groups. She was featured in Forsyth Women Magazine and takes commissions.

Jennifer enjoys capturing special memories for families through her artwork. Jennifer has loved art and wanted to pursue her passion as a career since she was in elementary school. Thanks to her supportive family, she was able to achieve her dream. Her media of choice are colored pencils, acrylic paints, visual journals, and mixed media sculpture. She loves teaching portraiture. Her advice to get started with any art is to just make the art and don't let doubt beat you. If you need support, find your community; they are waiting for you.

Her largest hope for her students is always that they find their path in the arts and will develop a practice that stays with them no matter what their day job is.
